GIRLSCHOOL's 'Emergency' Provides A Livewire To Haiti

Cornish youth music charity Livewire is releasing a cover of GIRLSCHOOL's 1980s hit single "Emergency" in order to raise much needed funds for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

The idea to raise money for those suffering the aftermath of the earthquake came solely from Livewire's young people who are aged between 10 and 20 years old and is an alternative to Simon Cowell's star-studded "Everybody Hurts" Haiti-relief single.

Working in collaboration with the heavy metal divas GIRLSCHOOL, Livewire will be releasing a rock version of the single "Emergency" and hopes to raise enough money to rebuild a school in Haiti as well as donating to charities such as ShelterBox.

The campaign to get the single released and indeed to number one in the charts has the full support of GIRLSCHOOL as well as BLACK SABBATH's producer Mike Exeter and others giving it the final tweak before it hits the shelves. Ex-RAINBOW singer Graham Bonnet will also be adding some vocals to the track.

The single, with a secret release date in the very near future, will be available for download on iTunes and limited-edition CDs, which has been financed by Spinnaker International and Disc Manufacturing Services Ltd.

Speaking of the work in progress single, project coordinator Andy Rance said, "Whilst we wish Simon Cowell and his record all the best, we wanted to offer a rock/metal alternative for those people who like it raw and loud. This is an awesome opportunity for around 50 young musicians from Livewire to work alongside some fantastic people within the music industry and to do something life-changing. Young people often get seen as a problem when actually not all of them are. We want to leave a lasting legacy out there in Haiti. We are not a rich charity, all we can offer is rock music, but that's something we are very good. If we can raise enough money to rebuild or build a school and support some charities, we will be really happy."

Livewire is a music-based charity for young people aged 10 to 20 providing music facilities including lessons, rehearsal and recording studios and a live music venue for bands. The premisies provide a relaxed social space, coffee bar, Internet access, pool and more. Its up-close-and-personal atmosphere promises to be one of the best smaller venues in the south west.
